Onsite Volunteer Opportunities

ECHO asks onsite volunteers to commit to a regular weekly schedule unless otherwise noted. Because ECHO has no paid staff and limited volunteer supervisors, we cannot accommodate court-ordered or other mandatory community service hours.

Knitting Donations Sorter

Sort and organize donated knitting yarns, books, kits, needles and accessories that could be used for the semi-annual ECHO yard sales. Donated items are placed in the «Knitting» bin until they are sorted and reviewed by the volunteer(s) for quality and potential for resale. If knitting items are not acceptable, they are considered for donation to other community organizations. Knitting items are organized into bundles of similar yard colors or types of yarns and/or kits, along with types of books or patterns that are priced and then stored in labeled storage boxes in preparation for the next yard sale. At the yard sale, volunteer(s) unload and arrange the pre-priced yarn, books/patterns and assembled kits in their designated area prior to the sale. Following the yard sale, any remaining knitting items are evaluated for donation to other community organizations or re-boxed for storage for the next sale. The volunteer(s) for this committee would need to monitor donations weekly or at least several times a month since the size and quantity of the donations does vary. Average time required is 30-60 minutes several times a month to sort and organize donations. Training is provided. Experience with knitting preferred.
