ECHO stands for "Ecumenical Community Helping Others", a reference to our creation in 1968 by nine religious congregations in Springfield and Burke. Hours of Operation - Monday through
Friday, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM; and Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursdays 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Assistance- We provide temporary or emergency assistance, including food, clothing, household items, and financial support to about 1,000 families a year. Persons requesting assistance must first call ECHO at 703-569-9160 when we are open, and speak to a family counselor. We cannot accept walk-in clients. Our counselors will determine whether or not ECHO may be able to provide the needed assistance and, if so, schedule an appointment. As appropriate, our counselors may suggest other options the person in need of assistance might pursue.
Collecting Donations - ECHO is grateful that organizations and individuals frequently wish to collect items to support our mission to assist the needy in the Springfield/Burke area. Please click here for further information on guidelines for collecting donations. Volunteers – ECHO is all-volunteers - almost 400 - they accept and log donations; counsel clients; sort clothes; bag groceries; mow the lawn; shovel snow; and even clean the bathroom. No one receives a salary. Volunteers are always needed - call us! To see a short video about volunteering at ECHO, click here. Non-Discrimination - ECHO policy prohibits discrimination as it relates to service delivery on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, physical or mental health, sexual orientation or any characteristic protected by law. We have barrier-free access to our entrance, an accessible restroom, and accessible routes inside and outside the building. For hearing-impaired persons, we use the Virginia relay number. Our administrative costs are less than 1% of our total revenue.
