“Our deeds in this lifetime echo
deep into time and space, like water rippling when a stone drops into
the glassy stillness”.
Volunteers –
ECHO is all-volunteers - almost 400 - they accept and log donations; counsel clients; sort clothes; bag groceries; mow the lawn; shovel snow; and even clean the bathroom. No one receives a salary. Volunteers are always needed - call us
HERE IS HOW VOLUNTEERING AT ECHO WORKS:
In general, volunteers can work at ECHO or, for some jobs, they might work outside of the ECHO building.
Volunteering at the ECHO building:
Typically, volunteers find a job at ECHO that they enjoy doing and then determine how often they want to do that job. Many people schedule themselves for one shift a week but some do more and some do less than once a week. There are five morning shifts (Monday through Friday, 9:30AM to 12:30PM) and three evening shifts (Tue, Wed and Thur, 7:00PM-9:00PM).
Volunteering outside of the ECHO building.
ECHO has a number of activities that require volunteers who prefer to work at home. For example, this webside is being developed at home. ECHO can use volunteers who can sell surplus items on eBay or Craigslist. ECHO holds a yard sale twice a year and volunteers are needed to take items home to sort them and price them for the yard sales. Volunteers can also coordinate and conduct food drives from their homes.
If a volunteer has to cancel his or her scheduled hours, we just ask for a phone call so we can make adjustments to the work load.
Seasonal Activities.
Seasonal activities include the twice yearly yard sales which require a large volunteer force to transport items to St. Bernadettes Catholic Church (the location of ECHO yard sales), to set up tables, to help with sales and to dismantle the tables afterwards. ECHO provides volunteers to help with the Postal Workers food drive and the Boy Scouts food drive. ECHO also requires volunteers for
assembling school supplies in the fall and in operating a Holiday Store in December.
