There are many worthy charities, why choose ECHO?
ECHO is 100% volunteer. There are about 400
volunteers on the roster. When we ask for donations, we're not asking
in order to pay salary money; we're asking because our clients need help.
ECHO has less than 1% overhead.
A few other charities also boast of a low overhead rate but because of the
way the IRS calculates overhead rates, a low overhead rate does NOT mean a
low number of paid employees. ECHO has no paid employees. In
addition, ECHO does almost no fundraising (check our IRS
Form 990).
Giving to ECHO will not result in getting mail
solicitations for donations because we don't do mail solicitations (nor
telephone solicitations).
ECHO is a local charity where you can see the work it
does. There are many hundreds of clients in the Springfield/Burke area
who have received assistance from ECHO.
What does ECHO do?
Food, clothing and household goods are provided to those in need in our service area.
Financial assistance with rent, utility bills, car repair bills, etc. is provided for short-term problems. Clients are referred to ECHO by churches, by Fairfax County, by other charitable organizations and are self referred.
ECHO provides a counselor/interview type of infrastructure that can validate and document a client's request for assistance.
ECHO provides a community service as a convenient receiving point for neighborhood donations of food, clothing and household goods.
ECHO provides the volunteers with the joy of helping their neighbors.
How is ECHO funded?
From donations through CFC/United Way
Financial support from our 27 member congregations
Generous donations directly from individuals and businesses
We sell donations that are not appropriate to give to clients and use the money for client financial assistance
Some grant money from Fairfax County and from a few private charitable foundations
